We're building the studio we wished existed

ReelM started when a software engineer sat down to edit his own videos and couldn't find the agent that code already had. So he built it.

[ founder's note ]

Hi, I'm Ahmad, and I should say up front that I'm not a creator. I'm a software engineer. This whole thing started the weekend I decided the amateur-looking videos on my personal page were my problem to fix.

Editing them wasn't hard so much as endless. All day I write code next to an AI agent: I say what I want, it plans the steps, runs the tools, and shows me the result. Then I'd open a video editor and be back to scrubbing for silences and setting cut points one frame at a time, alone. The agent I had for code just didn't exist for video.

So I went looking for it. I found a dozen brilliant tools that each did one trick. One captions, one dubs, one cuts, none of them talking to each other, all billed separately, and you still ended up stitching the results together by hand. Plenty of AI in the editor. None of it was the editor.

The best tool doesn't make you feel powerful. It makes the work disappear so the idea can show up.

That gap is what I started building in the spring of 2026. ReelMyis the agent I went looking for and couldn't find: one that understands footage, plans the edit, runs the tools, and hands you a timeline you can take anywhere. ReelM is the studio around it, and we're a small team building it in the open.

[What we believe]

Four principles, no committee

The work should disappear

The best tool doesn't make you feel powerful. It gets out of the way so the idea can show up.

You stay the director

ReelMy does the labor, never the deciding. Every AI action is a reversible step you own.

Fast is a feature

Speed isn't polish. It's the foundation. A studio that keeps up is a studio you'll actually use.

Build in the open

Public roadmap, honest changelog, and an agent that plugs into the tools you already trust.

[How we got here]

From a question to a studio

01

The missing agent

Editing my own clips, I kept reaching for the AI agent I code with all day. Nothing like it existed for video.

02

The first cut

A render core in Rust fast enough to keep up with an idea, and a timeline that never locks you out.

03

ReelMy

Not a chatbot bolted on. An agent that understands footage, plans an edit, and checks its own work.

04

Now

A small team building the studio we wished existed, in the open, and just getting started.
